PR Blog Number 3

After working on my Company Portfolio Project, I have come to the realization of how important it is to be clear with your words. As I have been writing my press releases, news releases, etc, it is important to make sure that every single piece of information is included so that the receiver of the message is able to get everything they need.
I also think that this project is very helpful so that we can get used to the many different aspects of media writing. Not many classes and/or internships give you the opportunity to exercise the skills you will need in the field of PR.

PR Blog Number 2

Thinking back to my summer internship, I realized how much goes into the PR work field. I worked in the Marketing and Public Relations department of Centegra Health System. There is so much that goes into the public relations field that I had no idea about. The head of the Public Relations department had so much to do! She had to make sure the the two hospitals were being shown in a "good light" throughout the community. Centegra Health System has such a big presence throughout the northern Illinois area. Kim, the head of PR, made sure that she sent out many Press Releases to the newspapers about new technology, new doctors, and anything that would help out Centegra. There were also events that needed to be told about. Kim is someone who I would love to be just like when I grow up.

Twitter.  WOW!

Before this class, I never had a twitter account.  Honestly, I did not think that I would need one.  My beliefs were quickly changed after this twitter assignment.  I cannot believe how many people communicate through this social media.  I can honestly say that it is out of this world!

I also came to like checking the people that I followed.  It is such an easy way to gather information as well.  For example when I didn't know if I could use Johnson Controls as my company for the profile, I simply just asked Gee through her twitter account and she got back to my asap!

I will keep twitter for the rest of my life.  It is a fast, simply and easy way to stay in touch with the people around you.  I find it interesting that twitter, facebook and myspace have such a great impact on society... BUT we must use these tools because if we don't, we will fall behind in communication!

What writing means to me

Words can be found throughout society in almost every space possible. There are words flowing into our heads from media, advertisements, books, newspapers and even love notes. Without words, this form of communication called writing, our lives would be vacant.

I believe writing is one of the most useful, innovative and beautiful ways to show something, anything. Writing is used to communicate information, give advise, show emotion and even declare independence.

Striving for a better understanding of different writing techniques is on the forefront of my mind. Because of the fact that I am working towards my Public Relations degree, I truly respect writing in every way possible. I cannot imagine our world without writing and words to influence us everyday.

Since the beginning of time, there have been writings on caves to tell stories. Look at where we are now... writing our blogs for a class!
